Steps 2 Wellbeing offers evidence-based talking therapies to patients in the Dorset and Southampton area for those who are suffering from common mental health problems.
We want to recruit trainee Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists (High Intensity CBT Therapists) to work within the Steps 2 Wellbeing Service, one of the country’s leading Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) services.
The successful candidates will undertake a 12 month training course at the University of Exeter. During this time, you will be trained to provide high intensity cognitive behavioural therapy within a stepped care model for adults with common mental health problems, including depression and a range of anxiety disorders.
We are looking for people with energy, enthusiasm, a high level of skills and experience. All staff will work as part of a team, receive regular clinical supervision and be able to access a high quality in-house CPD programme.
The course is due to begin on the 4thJanuary 2021 and you will be available to attend the course Induction days on the 7th& 8thDecember 2020.
There are 3 routes to eligibility:
ROUTE 1:You will have a core mental health profession as defined by the BABCP, for example: psychologist or Art Therapist [with HCPC registration]; Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or Learning Disability Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Counsellor (Accredited with the BACP, IACP, COSCA, or FDAP, NCAC),andhave at least two years full-time relevant experience of working in mental health.
ROUTE 2:If you are a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with at leasttwo years of post-qualification experience[this is counted from the date of your exam board]. In addition you will need to be able to demonstrate a completed KSA, meeting the standards of the BABCP.
ROUTE 3: If you have4 years of relevant mental health experience, and have a completed KSA. You will also have an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a discipline connected to mental health (e.g. psychology, neuroscience). Those without an undergraduate qualification but with evidence of the ability to study at third year of undergraduate degree level will also be considered.
Posts will be offered in a variety of locations across Dorset, and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. You will be asked to clearly indicate your preference [and any areas you would not accept] on your application.
After the fulfilment of the course and successful completion, the successful candidates will join our preceptorship scheme at Band 6. Progression to Band 7 will be subject to completing preceptorship competencies (aligned to the Roth & Pilling, 2007 competency framework) and application for full BABCP accreditation.
Good administrative, time management and communication skills are also essential. Experience of working within the NHS or similar organisation is highly desirable.
Services operate within a range of hours across a week to meet the requirements of our population and successful candidates are expected to be in a position to support evening working.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The DBS levies a charge of £40 and the Trust will recover this cost in instalments from your first 3 salary payments. This will only apply to candidates who are new to the Trust and not internal staff.
